Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

Oral and maxillofacial pathology is the specialty of dentistry and pathology which deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. It is a science that investigates the causes, processes and effects of these diseases. The practice of oral and maxillofacial pathology includes research, diagnosis of diseases using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical or other examinations, and management of patients. Oral pathologists are dentists who have completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial pathology. The vast majority of all actively practicing oral pathologists are Diplomates of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.

Since 2018, Pathology and Cytology Laboratories has offered oral pathology services with national coverage that includes contributors from coast to coast. Douglas D Damm DDS, Craig B. Fowler DDS and Molly H. Smith DMD joined our practice to provide this valuable specialty service. Dr. Damm, Dr. Fowler and Dr. Smith are Diplomates of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Damm and Dr. Fowler are also Past-President's of the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Fowler also proudly served in the armed forces and retired as a Colonel in the Air Force.
